Games/Craft Information:

Beaver Promise: I promise to love God and to help take care of the world.

Beaver Law: A beaver has fun, works hard and helps his family and friends.

Beaver Motto: Sharing, sharing, sharing

Beaver in the lodge:

Form small circle of three or four beavers. They should hold hands to form lodges. A child representing a beaver should stand in each lodge. Have one more beaver than there are lodges. On signal the beavers must change lodges. The one left out becomes “it” for the next game. After a few minutes have the children change places.

Log-Hop

2 pieces of cardboard, each about 25cm square, for each team - Form 2 teams behind a line. Draw another line 12 metres away. The area between the lines is “water”. The joeys must not fall into the “water”, but must cross to the other line. The two pieces of cardboard are “logs”. Starting from the line, the first joey stands with one foot on the cardboard and places the next just within stepping distance. The idea is to cross the waterway (floor), using the “logs” and not getting wet. Anyone falling off the logs must start again. Joeys pick up the cardboard, races back to the team and gives the cardboard to the next player.

Action story:

Beavers - gnaw gnaw gnaw

Ice Hockey – skate across

Mountie – march and salute (explain who the Mounties are!)

Last week the East Ryde Ice Hockey team had an away game at Macquarie Ice rink.  They all got on the bus with their ice hockey sticks and skates.  They were called the Brilliant Beavers and they were off to play the MightyMounties.  But on the way they were held up by flooding on the road, a Beaver had built a dam across the Parramata river and the whole of Ryde was flooded.  It looked like the Ice Hockey match would have to be postponed.  Their coach Brownie called the MightyMounties coach to find out what they should do about their Ice Hockey match but it seemed the Mounties were stuck in the rising water caused by the Beavers dam too.  They decided to meet down by the river and discuss what they could do.  As they battled their way down to the river they saw the Mountie police out in force trying to direct traffic, but they made it.  It was getting later at night and it was turning cold, so cold in fact that the flooded river froze over and the MightyMountie ice Hockey team and the Brilliant Beavers played their Ice Hockey match there and then on the frozen river - with of course the naughty beavers watching out from their dam!

Find the Rabbit

One small toy rabbit. Send the joeys outside and hide the toy in a defined area. The toy must be visible, but inconspicuous. Send the joeys in to search for the toy. When they find it, they sit down and watch the others continue to hunt. Caution the joeys not to sit down as soon as they see the rabbit. Someone else might get a clue from where they were looking when they sat down.

Explorers

Eplain about Canada being ‘discovered’ and that explorers had to carry all sorts of thing with them as they didn’t know what they would find!

Give Joeys a selection of items – get each Joey to pick something they think would be useful when exploring and why!!
