Games/Craft Information:

Snowball race
Styrofoam snow balls, spoons, hat, scarf and coat

Directions:

  1. Play this game as you would any relay race: divide into teams.
  2. Each player takes turns putting on scarf, hat and coat and balancing a "snowball" on a spoon while racing to the other side of the room and back.
  3. Drop the snowball in the bucket and run back
  4. Pass the clothes on to the next player who takes the next snowball.
  5. First team to complete the race wins!

Gift wrap relay

  • A box for each team member
  • Wrapping paper
  • Tape

Directions:

  1. Divide the children into teams.
  2. Place these items on a table or the floor for a gift wrap station.
  3. To play the game, a team member will leave their group, run to the gift station, wrap the gift, and run back to tag the next team member. The first team to have each member wrap a gift wins.

Puss in the corner

In this game, all the players pretend to be mice, except one, who is the cat.

The cat stands in the middle of the room. Each mouse stands on a piece of cheese on the circle (paper) and while there, the cat can't touch them. But when they run across the room to change places with one another mouse, the cat may capture the mice.

They must change with someone else – not just run across or they will be caught

No mouse should venture from a corner until he/she has made signs to another mouse with whom he/she would like to change places with or that little mouse may find him or herself halfway across the room with no place to run to.

The mouse that is caught must now become the cat.

Snowball Frosty the Snowman:

Draw a snowman on the board with target points (e.g. 10 pts head, 5 pts stomach, etc.).  Make wet balls of using tissue. Throw the wet 'snowballs' which stick to the snowman.

Craft:

  • String up salt dough shapes and paint/glitter.
  • Keep until the Christmas party

Christmas gift exchange

Sit in a circle with 1 or 2 gifts and while reading the story pass the gift left and right as directed.  Who ever ends up with the gift at the end – gets the gift…. Have a gift for everyone!  We would never be that mean at Joeys!!

Christmas gift exchange

You need wrapped presents one per Joey – pretend there is only one or two presents but have one for everyone!

All players sit close together in a circle while one person reads the story aloud.

The wrapped presents are distributed to the players throughout the circle to begin. As the story is read, the gifts will be passed from player to player.

When the players hear the word "RIGHT", each gift is passed to the player on their right. When the players hear the word "LEFT", they pass the gifts to the left.

When the story ends, the players get to open them and keep whatever is inside.

It was Christmas Eve and Mrs Right was busy preparing goodies in the kitchen. The Christmas tarts were almost ready to come out of the oven. Gingerbread men needed the right frosting and the turkey was left to pick up.

A few gifts were left to wrap. But there wasn't much left to be done. She nodded her head as she ticked off everything left to do before Christmas Day. After all, she wanted to get everything just right for this special day!

Little Peter Right climbed onto a chair and gazed at the gingerbread men spread out before him. Would Mum notice if one was missing? What about just a right arm or a left leg? No, she would see what was left and know he'd been nibbling. It wouldn't be right, he thought with a sigh. Especially not on Christmas Eve with Santa coming tonight! Only a few hoursleft!

Mrs Right poured milk onto Danny's cereal and placed the bowl to theleft of his orange juice. "Eat your breakfast," she told him, then go right upstairs and get dressed. We'll go shopping with my list of errands that are still left to do.

Soon they drove out of the driveway and headed right toward the shopping centre. Mrs. Right hoped there would be some of those delicious oranges left and Mr. Right had said last night that the new flavour of eggnog was just right so she hoped there was some of that left too.

Meanwhile, Mr. Right left the butcher's shop with their Christmas turkey and headed left down North Avenue. He had one more present to pick up that he'd left until today he didn’t want Mrs Right to find it. He was very excited that Christmas was finally almost here! He turned right and pulled into the car park there was a space over on the left.

Mrs. Right and Danny Right arrived home and walked into the kitchen. There sat Mr. Right and their daughter Sarah Right, each eating a gingerbread man. All that was left of Sarah's was one arm and she popped that into her mouth.

We're finally ready for Christmas, Mrs. Right exclaimed. Nothingleft to do except wish you all a Very Merry Christmas!!
