Games/Craft Information:

Rainbows (fruit salad variation!)

Joeys sit on chairs in a circle with one Joey is in the middle.  Number off red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet (including middle joey).  Call out “yellow” yellow joeys have to get up and switch chairs and the joey in the middle has to try and get a chair, leaving a new joey in the middle.  When you say “Rainbow” – all the joeys get up and switch chairs.  Maybe leave indigo out as we don’t have enough Joeys!

Balloons away!

Two teams either side of a line.  Drop in several coloured (rainbow!) balloons.  The object is to keep the balloons on the others teams side.  When time is called the winning team has the least balloons on their side of the line.  WATCH the fire!!

Craft – 3 groups

Scaredy milk– experiment in surface tension!  Pour milk into a plate and put a couple of drops of different food colouring onto the milk careful NOT to mix it yet!  Give each joey a matchstick which they dip in detergent and touch the drops of food colouring.  Instantly the surface tension is broken and the milk and food colouring scoot across the plate creating rainbows!!

Scaly Rainbow Fish – stick rainbow scales on the fish template!

Is black really black! – An experiment in chromatography.  Put a large dot of black texta on the bottom of a piece of blotting paper.  Dip the end of the paper in a shallow plate of water and watch the water rise up the paper taking the black ink with it – but is it black?

Colourful game

Fill in if some groups finish early – around the hall are different coloured paper, bags and fabric.  Call out “put your elbow on something green” “put your nose on something red” Joeys must find something that colour and share if necessary!!

Rainbow Hunt– hide small piece of paper in rainbow colours – red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet.  Two or three teams each person must run and find the next colouring the rainbow IN ORDER.  Winning team completes their rainbow first!

SKIT - Emergency Broadcast System.

Everyone in the group hums in a very high pitch note.  The announcer says “This has been a test of the East Ryde emergency broadcast system.  This has only been a test.  If there is an actual emergency, this is what you will hear”.  At that point everyone in the group screams in panic and runs away off stage.
