(everyone) Australia/n – Aussie Aussie Aussie!

Here we are folks at the last days of the Commonwealth games – the tension is mounting as the finals of some of our favourite events are here.  I’m here on my own in the Australian commentary box while everyone’s gone for lunch.

The swimmers are warming up in the pool for their 200 metre relay race. The sprinters are stretching  and jumping up and down before their 100 metre final is run.  The long jumpers are practising their landings, and the walkers are practising keeping their feet on the ground!  This has been an exciting games for Australia with a huge medal tally can we make it 200?

The swimmers have been called to the blocks, the Australians have a strong team. But wait the long jump is about to start oh no it is not Australia lets go back to the swimmers.  I’ve just heard the walkers are at the start and they’re off – phew that’s one started let’s get quickly back to the pool to see the swimmers, no I’ve just been told the 100m sprint is about to start the sprinters are at the blocks –Oh false start phew the long jump is in full swing – let’s check the walkers - no sign of Australia yet.

So the sprinters are on hold, walkers are off and the long jump is in progress let’s get back to the swimmers just in time - they’re on the blocks and they’re off! Australia has a good start - Ups there’s the walkers just coming around the first lap Australia is second.  The long jumper has had his first jump – not bad and back to the pool and the Australian swimmers are in front with 3 laps left to go.

The swimmers are coming up for their second lap Oh the sprinters are on the blocks again - can the swimmers beat the sprinters to the finish?  And they’re off! Australia has a good start Oh no the Nigerian fell over, back to the pool for the final lap and it’s Australia and Canada neck and neck, looks like Australia might beat the Commonwealth record but back to the sprinters. Australia in the lead, back to the swimmers at the pool Australia wins with a new Commonwealth record! Back to the sprinters at the track Australia wins again what an afternoon!

The long jump is going well, we are tied second place with Canada.  Australia is out in front in the walking.  Oh dear Canada has been disqualified. Can the Australian long jumper beat his personal best? The walkers are coming around for their 3rd lap – Australia still in front. We have lost a few walkers it looks like it is a tricky sport walkingLong jump is coming up for their final jump  - Oh and the walkers are coming for their final lap who is going to win walkers or long jumpers?  It’s walkers and long jump neck and neck it looks like a double gold for Australia!

Well the medal tally is four more Gold medals for Australia and I need a cup of tea!
