Games/Craft Information:

 

Game: NSEW

Equipment: Nil

Method: Desert Names - Sahara (Africa), Great Sandy (Aust), Gobi (China), Simpson (Aust)

Actions - sandstorm (crouch and cover up), oasis (hands up like a palm tree), camel (gallop around)

 

Game: Law and Promise treasure hunt

Equipment: A bucket of sand, “Law or Promise” lines and hide them in the bucket of sand.

Method: In relay form, JS on their turn search through the bucket of sand for a piece of paper. Return it to the team and make the Law or Promise.

 

Craft:Sand dough models

 

Sand Dough - Combine sand with flour, water and white glue to make a no-cook dough that can be used to make gritty sand-like sculptures.

Materials Needed

  • 2 cups flour
  • ¾ cup water
  • 2 ½ to 3 cups sand
  • 1 tablespoon white glue
  • Measuring cup

Game: Musical desert islands

Place paper on the floor, 1 per Joey.  Play music when the music stops each Joey must find a desert island.  Take one away.  Joeys must care and share the dwindling islands!!

 

 

Game:What to take in the desert

Each Joey must pick one item from the pictures that they think is important to take in the desert to survive.  Then discuss what they chose and why.
