JOEY SCOUT CLOWNS
Equipment: large sheets of butchers paper, paints, marker pens, scissors, scraps of fabric, coloured paper etc. for decorating the clown.
Lay the butchers paper on the ground and lay Joey on it, have parent trace your body outline onto the paper with a marker pen, cut around the outline. Draw clown facial features onto the cut out, you can stick a red pom-pom on for a clown nose. Stick pieces of brightly coloured fabric onto the body for clothing or paint the clothing using bright colours. Once satisfied with your clown tape them to the walls in your hall for a stunning display.
OPENING PARADE
Explain exits, safety procedures, timetable for the weekend, toilets etc.
THREE LEGGED RACE
Joey teams up with their parent and has a three legged race – outside if weather permits- use scarves to tie legs together.
CHAIR SOCCER
East Ryde will teach Boronia how to play if you don’t already know!
CIRCUS FRUIT SALAD
Play as fruit salad - Tight rope walker, Juggler, Lion tamer, BIG TOP (everyone changes).
ROTATIONS
· Tight rope – Walk the ‘tight rope’ without falling. This is a plank of wood set up between two crates. Set it up outside on the grass for safety. Points for not falling off.
· Build it up knock it down- set up a pile of boxes as a pyramid and have the joeys knock it down with a bean bags. Points for knocking it down in one go and knocking the boxes down from a distance.
· Throw wet cotton balls at clown- outline of a clown is drawn on paper (or the wall) and Joeys throw wet cotton wool balls at the clown. Points are scored for getting it on the nose or the buttons.
· Hoops- throw beanbags in to hoop – points for accuracy
· Hit the target (straw rockets) - use straw rockets and hit the targets points for hitting the centre.
Tally up the collective points of the WHOLE mob. 1000 points and we get dessert tonight!
JUGGLING JOEY'S
Equipment: hacky sack balloon juggling balls (made in advance – we found it tricky for joeys to do with balloons!)
Joeys in pairs with one hacky sack for each Joey Scout, simultaneously throw their bean bag for partner to catch. Try sitting, standing, walking etc while throwing to each other. Try juggling!
CRAFT PAPER PLATE WEAVING
Using a paper plate and seven different coloured pieces of wool the Joeys learn to weave. This weaving is similar to French Knitting.
STORY TIME
Joeys help tell the story – based on Wacky Web Tales.
SPOTLIGHT AT THE CIRCUS
Darken the room and the Joeys dance around and then freeze when the music stops and the “security guard” is checking on all the circus animals/ characters with his torch.
