Red, Blue, Green

Play to music if you want.  Leader holds up a combination of a colour and an activity.  On the whistle the joeys have to perform the activity at a fast, normal or slow speed. Blow the whistle to get them to change activity and speed.

RED – fast speed

BLUE – normal speed

GREEN – slow motion

Activities – dancing, hopping, jumping, walking, robot

Science matching game

In two teams with an adult/leader each.  One set of pictures are of scientific discoveries and instruments and the other set are of what they measure.  Can you match them up before the other team!

Direction of sound

Joeys all in a circle with one Joey in the middle with a blindfold and one bit of cotton wool in one ear.  Leader moves around the circle and taps a Joey on the shoulder, they clap once loudly.  The Joey in the middle has to try and point in the direction of the clap.  Try with and without cotton wool.

Science:

  1. Can you see sound?
    1. Sound detector – cover a tin with cling film and sprinkle a little rice ontop either play music or bang a pan and see if you can make the rice bounce
    2. Sound gun – using a tube and candle you can see the sound waves make the candle flicker – you might even make it go out!
  2. Sound travels through things
    1. Good vibrations – put a balloon up to your ear and have someone else talk through the balloon – is it louder?
    2. Wrap the string around the pointer finger on each hand and carefully put your finger in each ear.  Have someone else bang the hanger which is dangling down in front of you with a spoon – is it loud?
    3. Use a hydrophone to hear under water.  Hold the bottle to your ear with the ope end under the water. Have some bang two stones together under water -  can you hear?
  3. Making noise!
    1. Make paper bangers
    2. Use an old fashioned telephone!

What noise is that?

Joeys stand with their back to the table.  A leader chooses an object which makes a noise – keep them hidden beforehand.  Joeys have to try and guess what the noise is – maybe pick a Joey to listen so everyone gets a go, if they can’t guess it open to all?

Try – stapler, stamping feet, tearing paper, castinets, lager-phone, Paper bag bang, scissors, bouncing a ball, zipper, screw up newspaper, open an umbrella, close a door, drum, shaker makers, stirring a spoon in a cup, pouring water into a glass?

Spare game - animal noises

Can you identify the animal noise?
