Arrival Craft

Decorate and colour 2 Paper plates each (used to make Tamborine later)

Catch the Tail Game:

Form a dragon by putting the Joeys in a line, each with their hands on the shoulders of the one in front. The first in the row is the dragon's head. The last in the row is the dragon's tail, eager to lash to the right and left in order to escape the head. Until the signal Go is given, the dragon must be in a straight line. A Leader calls out One, two, three, Go! On the signal Go the head runs around toward the tail and tries to catch it. The whole body must move with the head and remain unbroken. If the head succeeds in touching the tail, they may continue to be the head. If the body breaks before they catch the tail the head becomes the tail and the next in line becomes the head, and so on until each has a chance to be the head and the tail.

Instrument Making Tamborine & Pan Pipes

Tamborine:

2 paper or foil plates/bowls, masking tape, stapler, beans/rice/small gravel/rolled oats (whatever filling you choose will give a different sound), decorating items like streamers, stickers etc

Put some filling into one plate. Staple streamers round the edge if you wish if desired, so they hang out when it is finished. Put the other plate on top, upside down. Seal the two plates together with masking tape so the filling will not come out. Decorate.

Pan Pipes (If needed):

Need straws, sticky tape and scissors.

Marco Polo Game

Once Joey is blind folded (close eyes) and needs to find the other Joeys by singing a tune “La La La”, everyone responds back by shaking tamborine – the blindfolded Joey has to find them.

Sound Circle

Everyone sits in a circle: do all some of the below options.

1. Buzz & Hum: Feel your voice coming from your chest & head.

- Make a buzzing sound like a bee.  Put your hand on your chest. Feel the vibrations. The sound comes through your mouth.

- Now press your lips together and hum. Feel the vibrations in your head. This sound comes through your nose.

2. Tongue & Lips: Waggle your tongue and move your lips

Take a deep breath and sing a long note.

Change the shape of your lips to make “oooo” and “eeee” sounds.

Waggle your tongue to make “lubba-lubba” sounds.

Flap your lips with your finger.

Find out how many different sounds you can make by moving tongue & lips.

3. Follow the lead: One Joey takes the lead in making a sound and everyone copies at the same time.

Guessing game

Choose a Joey to be Mother Hen. The other Joeys form a line of chicks behind Mother Hen. Mother Hen throws the ball over her shoulder and the chicks try to catch it. The successful catcher hides the ball behind their back. The other Joeys also place their hands behind their back and all cry “cheep, cheep, cheep”. On this signal the Mother Hen turns around and tries to guess who has the ball. If the guess is wrong, the chick with the ball becomes the Mother Hen
